I was on the train the other day with Rezza when a mother and her daughter had a slight disagreement. Obviously I was observing and eavesdropping! It started when someone alighted thus there was an empty seat in front of the girl. Seeing that, the mother insisted her daughter to "grab" the seat. At the same time, an elderly man was approaching the same available seat. He was limping so obviously he needed the seat more than the young and able-bodied child. That was when the argument started.
Mother (M): Hurry! Sit down! Quickly!
Daughter: No, I want to stand.
M: I tell you to sit down you sit down now before that man take it!
D: No thanks mummy, I want to stand.It's ok, let the old man sit down
M: You better not regret I'm telling you!
After a few stops when the parent managed to get a seat (while the daughter was still standing), she said something that just made her look completly foolish.
M: Next time when I tell you to sit, you better sit!
The daughter gave no reaction, head down and eyes on the floor
And the mother continued yakking
M: How do you want to be successful next time! You must always grab every opportunity you get you understand?!?!?
The daughter gave no answer.
M: You understand or not! I'm talking to you! Next time whatever opportunity you get you better take! Don't be stupid! See now you have to stand!
Upon hearing that statement, I immediately turned and just stared at the mother. How appalling! You dont give credit to your child who empthasises with an elderly yet you pick on her, criticised her decision.
Honestly, what values is she trying to instill to her child or to the onlookers(espcially with children)?
